Knowing the right questions to ask when searching for home care services can make all the difference. When looking for a home care agency it is critical for you or your loved one to take the time to ask these important questions:
.) How long have you been in business?
.) How does the agency hire and train staff?
.) Are your caregiver’s employees of the company or independent contractors?
.) Are your employees covered by Worker’s Compensation?
.) Does the agency manage all payroll and employee related matters?
.) What type of employee screening is done?
.) Is there continuing education for employees?
.) Can the agency provide references?
.) Does your agency have liability insurance coverage?
.) Did the Assessment Person seem genuinely interested in your needs?
.) Can you send me information describing your services and fees?
.) How are emergencies handled outside normal business hours?
.) Most Importantly; Are you and your loved ones comfortable with your initial contact with the agency?
.) Can we set up a time to meet and discuss details of my care needs?
.) Can we interview potential candidates and make our choice?
.) What happens if our caregiver is sick or going on holidays?
.) Is the agency diligent about sending the same caregiver to the home each time?
.) Does the agency handle any disputes that may arise between the senior and or their family and the caregiver?
.) If we are not satisfied with the caregiver will the agency replace that caregiver?
.) Does the agency write a care plan (with input from the senior and family) and update it as the situation changes?
.) Does the agency offer seniors a “Patient’s Bill of Rights” that describes the rights and responsibilities of both the agency and the senior being cared for?
